The Playmakers

Category: Games & Activities · 4-page printable PDF · Ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members

A fully student-led PE session card: four students take the wheel — Warm-Up Captain, Skills Coach, Game Director and Analyst — and run the entire lesson from warm-up to debrief while the teacher steps back into a facilitator role.

Each role card scaffolds real responsibility: the Captain plans and leads the warm-up, the Coach delivers skill teaching with a feedback formula, the Director manages the game phase, and the Analyst observes and reports on performance. Peer assessment and reflection prompts hold the leaders accountable, and differentiation options adjust the challenge. Mapped to AC9HPEY603 and AC9HPEY803 across Years 5–10.

Four pages: role cards, session guide worksheet, feedback structures and reflections. Rotate the roles across a term and every student leads something — it's the most concrete leadership development a PE program can offer, and a genuine assessment window into the personal-social strand.

What students learn

Students take on defined leadership roles to plan and run a complete PE session. Students practise giving specific peer feedback, managing class participation, observing and analysing performance, and reflecting on their own leadership effectiveness.

Topics: student leadership, student-led PE, leadership roles, peer assessment, reflection, PSACH, warm-up, games
