Behind the Scoreboard: Sport Career Blueprint

Category: Games & Activities · 3-page printable PDF · Ages 7-8, 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members

Behind the Scoreboard is a three-page sport career blueprint built around twelve game-day crew roles (physio, sport scientist, referee, coach, performance analyst, sports journalist, commentator, event manager, strength and conditioning, groundskeeper, equipment designer, sport psychologist), each tagged with two core strengths. Students circle three roles that spark curiosity, then rate themselves on an eight-item strengths scan.

A Match & Map page asks for a top-three shortlist with a why-it-fits line, then a five-rung pathway ladder from try it at school to future job. A sideline injury scenario has students sketch which crew members act and who talks to whom, and three Try It Yourself tasks let them commentate, tally a stat or coach a warm-up next lesson.

Page 3 closes with a four-step streak, five sport-worker interview questions, a next-step pledge and a teacher stamp box with Make It Easier and Level Up options. Pencil only, ideal for Years 7–10 careers or sport-roles units. Pairs with Ref Ready! and Coach's Eye.

What students learn

Students explore twelve off-field sport careers and the strengths each one relies on, rate their own strengths on an eight-item scan, and shortlist three roles with reasons and a learning goal. They map a five-step pathway from trying a role at school through volunteering, study and a first job, analyse a sideline injury scenario to see how crew roles interact and communicate, and trial a role in class by commentating, tallying a statistic or coaching a warm-up. A four-step action streak, structured interview questions for a sport worker and a next-step pledge turn career awareness into concrete planning, feedback-seeking and reflection, building self-knowledge and an understanding of the breadth of the sport industry.
