Midline Mission: The Cross-Body Code-Breaker

Category: Games & Activities · 3-page printable PDF · Ages F-2, 3-4 · Free for ConnectedPE members

Midline Mission is a spy-themed case file that turns crossing the midline into a four-digit vault code. Agents learn an eight-symbol cipher key (Star, Moon, Dot, Box, Wave, Hug, Diamond, Plus), each standing for a cross-body move such as right hand to left knee or a sideways figure eight, then crack four locks: Lock of Mirrors, Lock of the Lazy Eight, Lock of Rhythm and Lock of the Switch.

Every lock yields a digit only by doing the movement for real: circling agents who cross the midline and copying them, tracing a lazy eight for four laps and counting centre crossings, performing a symbol code to a steady beat with a partner sign-off, and passing a beanbag across the body for each star. Each lock has Make It Easier and Level Up lines; the answer key is on page 3.

Three pages: a vault door to colour, a Design Your Own Secret Code task and a cut-out Top Agent badge. Needs a beanbag or rolled sock, a pencil and scissors. Suits Foundation to Year 4 as a station, brain break or PMP session. Pairs with Robo Movers and Balance Mountain.

What students learn

Students practise crossing the body's midline with hands, elbows, eyes and a beanbag through eight coded cross-body moves, building bilateral coordination, body awareness and the smooth, controlled reaching that underpins throwing, kicking, reading and writing. They decode symbol sequences and perform them in order to a steady beat, trace a lazy eight to link visual tracking with hand control, identify which pictured agents are crossing the midline and copy them, and pass an object hand to hand across the body. Partner sign-offs, Make It Easier and Level Up options and a Design Your Own Secret Code task let students self-pace, self-assess and create new cross-body patterns for a classmate to crack.

Topics: crossing the midline, cross-lateral, coordination, perceptual motor, PMP, body awareness, brain break, fine motor, bilateral, spy theme, worksheet, station activity
