Sun Safe Heroes turns Australia's five S's — Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide — into a 12-mission Play-Outside Quest for ages 5–10, from Cover-Up Champ and Rashie Ready to Sunscreen Superhero (SPF50+, 20 minutes before play), Top It Up after two hours, the No Hat No Play school rule, Shade Seeker and Wrap-Around Style sunnies.
The card teaches the actual behaviours, with the trigger rule stated plainly: be sun safe whenever UV hits 3 or higher — even when it's cloudy or cool. Missions are specific enough to audit ("ears, nose, neck and hands too", "broad-brim or bucket hat, not a cap"), and the logbook converts knowledge into commitment: a match-the-S task, a spot-the-sun-safe-kid comparison, a colouring hero, and a personal sun-safe pledge with a Bronze–Silver–Gold self-rating.
Two pages, F–Year 4, no equipment beyond hats and sunscreen kids already bring. Pair with Water Warriors for the hydration half of hot-weather play, and Splash Squad to complete the summer-safety trio.
What students learn
Identify and practise sun-safe behaviours — slip on sun-protective clothing, slop on SPF50+ sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses — and understand when protection is needed using the UV index.
