Story Moves: A Movement Storybook Adventure
Category: Games & Activities · 2-page printable PDF · Ages F-2, 3-4 · Free for ConnectedPE members
An eight-scene movement storybook for Foundation–Year 3: students travel, balance, stretch and express their way past sleeping dragons, through crystal caves and across bubbling rivers, performing fundamental movement skills as the narrative demands them.
Narrative is the engagement engine at this age — a balance hold becomes tiptoeing past a dragon, and suddenly every child is invested in stillness. The included Explorer's Journal consolidates the learning: star tracking across scenes, buddy high-five feedback prompts, and reflection questions, with Bronze, Silver and Gold explorer badges to chase. Mapped to AC9HPFM02, AC9HP2M02 and AC9HP4M02.
Two pages, no equipment, any space. Run it as a full early-years lesson, split scenes across a week of warm-ups, or hand it to a relief teacher — the story structure carries the lesson even without PE expertise.
What students learn
Students perform fundamental movement skills — travelling, balancing, stretching and expressive movement — in response to a narrative prompt. They build movement vocabulary, practise control and balance, and reflect on their adventure using star tracking and a buddy feedback prompt.
Topics: storytelling, fundamental movement, imagination, balance, travel, stretch, expressive movement, early years, narrative
