Playmaker — The Tactical Invasion Game Workshop
1-page printable PDF · Ages 7-8, 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members
A tactical workshop that teaches four core invasion-game plays — Give & Go, Overlap Run, V-Cut Lead and The Screen — with court diagrams, then hands students the whiteboard: design your own attack play, analyse a 4v3 scenario, and create an entirely new invasion game with the game creator.
Named plays give students tactical vocabulary that transfers across basketball, soccer, netball, hockey and rugby — once you can *see* a give-and-go, you find it everywhere. The 4v3 analysis develops numerical-advantage reasoning, and the design tasks flip students from play-runners to play-makers.
Print-friendly, designed for Years 7–10. Use it as a wet-weather tactics session, the theory layer of an invasion unit, or the bridge into student-designed games. Completes the tactical set with Command the Court (principles) and Read & React (in-game decisions) — this is the one where students start authoring the tactics themselves.
Topics: tactical-thinking, invasion-games, basketball, soccer, netball, hockey, rugby, decision-making, game-design, scenario-analysis, give-and-go, overlap, v-cut, screen-pick, spatial-awareness, print-friendly
