Check In, Breathe, Move
Category: Fitness · 2-page printable PDF · Ages 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members
A private, judgement-free yoga self-assessment card built for Year 9 wellbeing. Students complete a body-scan check-in and an "emotional weather report," build their own 3-pose yoga sequence from a guided menu matched to what they're feeling, then reflect on the shift and set an intention for the week.
The design principle is privacy: this is a card students complete for themselves, not a performance for the class. That's what makes it work with adolescents — the self-awareness is real because the audience is removed. Choosing movement to match their own state is self-regulation in practice, mapped to AC9HP9P01 and AC9HP9P03.
Two pages, no equipment beyond floor space. Use it to open or close a wellbeing unit, as a recurring fortnightly check-in ritual, or as a calm alternative session during high-stress periods like exams. It also models a transferable life skill: noticing your state and doing something constructive about it.
What students learn
Students develop self-awareness and self-regulation strategies by tuning into their physical and emotional state, selecting movement that matches their needs, and reflecting on the impact of a yoga practice on body and mind.
Topics: yoga, wellbeing, mindfulness, self-assessment, self-regulation, mental health, breathing, reflection, Year 9
