Balance Mountain
Category: Fitness · 1-page printable PDF · Ages F-2, 3-4 · Free for ConnectedPE members
A self-paced balance challenge card that turns static balance practice into a mountain expedition. Students climb 8 "camps" of progressively harder poses — from a two-foot statue at base camp to an eyes-closed tree pose at the summit — holding each for a 5-second count before moving up.
Three trails (Foundation, Developing, Extending) let each student pick the difficulty that stretches them, and the built-in reflection asks which camp they're proudest of and what their next goal is — self-assessment habits starting in the earliest years. Mapped to AC9HPEFM01, AC9HPE2M01 and AC9HPE4M01 for F–4.
Zero equipment, 10–20 minutes, one printed page. Use it as a lesson starter, a stations rotation, a calm-down closer after high-energy games, or a brain-break in the classroom — anywhere you need focused, quiet, genuinely developmental movement. Every student climbs at their own pace, so nobody's waiting and nobody's left behind.
What students learn
Students develop static balance and body control by holding a sequence of progressively harder balance poses. They self-select their challenge level along three trails (Foundation, Developing, Extending) and reflect on the camp they are proudest of and their next goal.
Topics: balance, stability, body control, progression, no equipment, warm-up, fundamental movement skills, self-paced
