Running Analysis Activity
Category: Sport Skills · 4-page printable PDF · Ages 7-8, 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members
A movement-skill analysis task focused on the action every sport shares: running. Students observe a runner and assess technique against a structured checklist — stance, arm action, foot strike and stride — then identify what's working, what's breaking down, and develop corrective strategies to improve speed and efficiency.
Because running technique is so visible and so universal, this task is an ideal introduction to movement analysis: every student has a mental model of "good running," and the checklist sharpens that intuition into structured observation. The corrective-strategy step turns analysts into coaches — proposing specific, actionable changes rather than vague encouragement.
Four pages, ready to print, designed for Years 7–10. Run it in an athletics unit, as a biomechanics practical, or with video for frame-by-frame observation. Pairs naturally with the Striking Analysis Activity to build a movement-analysis sequence across different skill families.
What students learn
