Play the Para Way

Play the Para Way is a 12-card peer-coaching deck of Paralympic sports: Goalball, Sitting Volleyball, Boccia, Wheelchair Basketball, Blind Football, Para Table Tennis, Wheelchair Rugby, Seated Throws, Para Badminton, Para Swimming Starts, Torball and Para Archery. Each card gives a sport intro, a set-up list, three Teach It steps, a Try It challenge and a For Everyone adaptation.
The See It, Say It, Show It structure turns students into coaches: groups of 3–4 learn a card, teach it to a peer group, then swap cards and become learners. Rotating Coach, Athlete and Spotter roles, a Coach Scorecard and two Think About It prompts keep the focus on clear instruction and inclusion. A Play Safe & Play Fair panel sets the ground rules: eye shades always optional, soft balls only, flat floors and walking pace for chair sports.
Three pages, built from everyday gear: balloons, bean bags, rope nets, office chairs, a ball in a bag. Ideal for Years 5–8 inclusion units. Pairs with Everybody In! Inclusive Adaptation Guide and Coach's Eye.
What students learn
Students learn the basic rules, set-up and key movement skills of twelve Paralympic sports, then teach them to peers using a see it, say it, show it coaching sequence. They practise explaining a skill in three clear steps, giving one helpful tip, setting up a safe space and checking that every participant can take part, and self-assess against a Coach Scorecard. Through the For Everyone adaptations and Think About It prompts they identify how equipment, rules and roles can be modified so that all bodies can play, reflect on what they learned about playing a sport differently, and build respectful attitudes toward disability and para sport grounded in ability rather than assumption.
Topics: Paralympic, para sport, inclusion, inclusive PE, peer coaching, goalball, boccia, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, adapted sport, fair play, task cards, disability awareness
