Profile a Coach Activity
Category: Sport Skills · 2-page printable PDF · Ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members
A research and reflection task where students profile a coach they admire — from professional sport, their community club, or their own school — identifying the coach's style, philosophy and the qualities that make them effective.
Anchoring coaching theory to a real person a student cares about changes the quality of the thinking. Abstract lists of leadership traits become concrete: *this* coach's calm at three-quarter time, *that* coach's brutal honesty in review sessions. Students connect style to outcomes — how those specific traits influence athlete performance and development — and build a personal model of the leadership they'd want to give and receive.
Two pages, Years 5–10, working equally well as homework research or an in-class task. Use it to open a coaching unit (before Observation, Styles Role Play and Practical Coaching make it hands-on), or as a standalone leadership reflection inside any sport unit with a coaching thread.
