Practical Coaching Activity

Category: Sport Skills · 4-page printable PDF · Ages 7-8, 9-10 · Free for ConnectedPE members

The capstone coaching task: students design and deliver a short drill or minor game to their peers, then reflect on how it landed. The four-page pack scaffolds all three phases — planning (objective, organisation, equipment, cues), delivery (instruction, demonstration, feedback), and structured reflection on what worked and what they'd change.

Standing in front of a group with a plan is where coaching theory becomes real. Students discover the gap between the session in their head and the session on the floor — instructions that made sense on paper, transitions that ate half the time — and the reflection turns those discoveries into learning rather than embarrassment.

Years 7–10, any sport or skill. Run it as the assessment piece of a coaching unit after Observation, Styles Role Play and the Feedback activity have built the toolkit — or use it standalone to develop leadership, communication and empathy for what their own teachers and coaches do every lesson.
