Catch Quest

Category: Sport Skills · 2-page printable PDF · Ages F-2, 3-4 · Free for ConnectedPE members

A 6-station throwing and catching adventure for F–4, framed as hero training. Students rotate through wall toss, high-toss, marching catch, partner pass, target throw and an invent-your-own station — logging catches, vocabulary and progress in their Hero Training Journal as they go.

The cue language does the technical work: eyes on the ball, hands ready, step with opposition, soft hands. Every station drills the same cues from a different angle, so the technique consolidates through variety rather than repetition — and the invent-your-own station hands students creative ownership of the skill. A partner coach card turns waiting students into working coaches with structured prompts. Mapped to AC9HPEFM01, AC9HPE2M01 and AC9HPE4M01.

Two pages, balls and beanbags, any space with a wall. Run it as an object-control FMS unit, a recurring stations lesson, or assessment evidence — the journal doubles as a per-student record of progress.

What students learn

Develop fundamental object control skills — throwing and catching — using cues for eyes, hands, step opposition and soft hands. Students practise across 6 stations, track their own progress, design an original throw/catch, and coach a peer using structured prompts.

Topics: throwing, catching, object control, FMS, stations, fundamental movement skills, underarm, overhand, partner activity
