The purpose of this session is to simplify school-based physical activity promotion using The Theory of Expanded, Extended and Enhanced Opportunities. Participants will first learn the foundational principles of this theory. Next, leveraging components of the school environment, specifically, physical education, recess, classrooms, out-of-school, staff, and families will be discussed with evidence-based examples provided for each. Woven in this discussion will be strategies for maximizing and enhancing all school-based physical activity opportunities. Participants can expect to leave with a foundational understanding of basic youth physical activity principles as well as countless strategies for promoting youth physical activity in any school.
